Appendix is a small hollow tube shaped that is attached to the large colon. It is around 4 inches in size and looks like a worm. Though the appendix does not play a very important role in the human's body by they do play role in the immune system. Sometimes there is cancer in the appendix and this termed as appendiceal cancer. Another name for this type cancer is colorectal cancer. This is a very uncommon type of cancer and is rare in the patients. Generally it happens that people come to the hospital for abdomen surgery or check up and the appendiceal cancer is detected.  If there is cancer in the abdomen, then it cause the appendix to rupture and the cells slowly spread to the abdomen region. Then there is infection of the lining of the abdomen and it has to be treated on time to protect it from spreading. 

The appendiceal cancer may also cause tumor in the abdomen that may slowly spread to the abdomen region. Generally there are no signs or any kind of discomfort and this situation goes on increasing until the appendiceal cancer is treated. Whenever a mass is discovered in the abdomen during the abdomen surgery, then it should be analyzed and treated. Most of the masses are very small in size and harmless and they can be treated in a very easy way. The mass that is more than 2cm in size is risky and has to be treated. 

In the case of appendiceal cancer, there is rarely any type of sign but sometimes the cancer shed mucus until they get burst and spread cells in the abdomen. This may cause right side discomfort to the person who is affected. In this case the appendiceal cancer has to be treated otherwise it may turn ugly and risky as well. The doctors that treat the appendiceal cancer do the debulking surgery on the patient. In this surgery the cancer that has spread to the abdomen is removed. For this they do heated chemotherapy on the patients. They take chemotherapy drugs and heat them up to 110 degrees. Then this circulated over the abdomen in order to kill the tumor cells. 

In this way the appendiceal cancer can be treated and cured. The chemotherapy rays can penetrate deep inside the man's abdomen and can kill the cancerous cells. This is the way one can get the cancer treated. There are different types of appendiceal cancer. They are malignant carcinoid, mucinous cancer, adenocarcinoma, and signet ring Aden carcinoma.
